HR Nexus
UI/UX Designer and Researcher
This project was based on a design and build of the Broadstone Consulting HR Nexus Marketplace (“HRN”) platform. HR Nexus is a new way to provide consulting for Human Resources/ Workplace/ Employee Benefit issues. HRN is a marketplace for employers to access expert advice for their workforce issues from a diverse team of expert consultants through a technology platform. This was a personal project completed in 6 weeks.
Developing a website that allows user to search for and schedule appointments with qualified HR professionals in a clean and easy to interact interface.
For this platform to be built, I had to conceptualize the following:
Gain a comprehensive understanding of Broadstone Consulting Innovation Hub’s value proposition, competitive position, and business goals and create a Core Strategy for how to approach this project
Define and articulate the platform architecture
Develop comprehensive and consistent User Experience design
Before doing any ideation I started to analyzing the existing research and personas to understand the core of the product and Broadstone Consulting. I took a high level approach to turning HR Nexus's business goal and user needs into an actionable plan. I began by analyzing the objective, context, and delivery of the product and whiteboarding my ideas in Miro.
User Journey Maps + Wireframing + Prototyping
Before going into user interface design, I made sure to polish the features and user interaction flow. The following feature user journey maps to describe the content strategy and user flow through the app, listing potential features users may interact with. The creation of flowcharts are the basis for refining the workload necessary for developers and higher-fidelity designs later on, and for discovering potential issues behind the product in a quick and time-efficient way.
I usually start the design process with low fidelity wireframes. I had a list of screens to cover all scenarios so I started to sketching different designs to detail out the flows to discuss and share with class members to get feedback. With my wireframes I was able to clearly define the basic features and main user journey of the website.
What can users do on the website?
1. The users should be able to search for a HR professional
2. They can choose from a selection of HR professionals that meet their criteria
3. They can read the bio for each HR professional
4. They can book an appointment with a professional
5. They can pay for their appointment with a credit card
Evaluation with remote user tests
With the help of Figma I created a low fidelity, clickable prototype. I tested this prototype with 2 users. I found the first test to be successful. To further examine the usability of the website I need to build out the rest of the prototype with more user options.
Takeways from this design challenge
Remember simplicity
As a designer, we are often lured by new and trendy designs. But, We must always remember the primary goal is to understand the user, their problems and then come up with a design that solves it.
Value feedback
The most valuable feedback can come from usability testing. Spend time listening to every user and look for commonalities in their experiences.
